Walls Are Broken and The Gates Damage
The walls are broken down, the gates have been burned with fire, this is what Nehemiah observed as he went through the city of Jerusalem after arriving.
Prior to this time, he had received word that the Jews who had escape the captivity, the remnant that remained regarding their affliction and reproach by those that had besieged the city.
The first thing Nehemiah did upon learning this news was he wept! I can only imagine the tears that flowed from his eyes and ran down across his cheeks, the sorrow in his heart for the children of Israel. He mourned certain days and fasted, and then prayed before the God of heaven.
But what did he pray? He could have prayed regarding those that attacked the city of Jerusalem, those that afflicted and brought reproach upon the remnant that remained but he didn’t.
(Nehemiah 1:5 KJV) His prayer was to the LORD God of heaven that kept the covenant and mercy for them that love him and observed his commandments:
(Nehemiah 1:6 KJV) Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have sinned.
So what just happened?
If we open our Bibles and turned to (2 Chronicles 7:14-15 KJV) 14 If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
God responded to their prayer:
15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
Nehemiah who is called by God’s name humbled himself, prayed, sought the face of God, confessed the sins of the children of Israel and he and his father’s house.
(Nehemiah 1:7 KJV) We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandest thy servant Mo’ses.
In Nehemiah’s prayer to God of heaven, he asks God to remember the word that he had commanded his servant Mo’ses, saying if they transgress he would scatter them abroad among the nations, but if they turn back to God, and kept his commandments and do them, he would bring them back together.
When you turned back to God; then you are turning from your wicked ways.
God heard Nehemiah’s prayer and provided everything that he needed for his journey back to Jerusalem and while he was there rebuilding the walls and gates.
Let’s Fast Forward To 2021
Nehemiah was a leader that trusted God and relied upon the God of heaven.
Today in our time as Christian’s our walls are broken down and our gates are damaged and in need of repair; the walls and gates however are not physical, they are spiritual walls and gates.
Walls are for protection and gates are for actions.
It’s time for us as Christians to begin rebuilding the Gospel Wall and Gates in our communities and the first wall that must be established is the wall of sound doctrine.
This wall must be fortified with the truth of God’s word.
For all the other walls and gates will be hinged upon the truth of God’s word. Not man’s traditions or teaching and preaching of words that are contrary to God’s truth.
There is teaching within Christians circles that are contrary to the word of God.
In 2 Timothy there is a warning that this will happen:
(2 Timothy 4:3-4 KJV) 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Fables are falsehoods, fiction, myths, that do not line up with the Gospel they are teachings that contradict the word of God and the results are a different Gospel.
Test, Test, and Test
(1 John 4:1 KJV) Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
We cannot just go on the word of whom we are listening to regarding God’s word. What they preach, teach, and proclaim must be tested against the word of God and in the context of what the verses of scripture are that are being used.
Spiritual Walls of the gospel fortified with the word of God will protect our communities with the wisdom that comes from God. His word will provide for our nourishment and strengthening of our bodies for renewing our minds.
The gates of faith put into action through God’s word, reading, studying scriptures, spending time with God in prayer will draw us closer to our Lord.
Gates will open and shut, they will also protect, but they are faith in action. The seed of His word is sown into us it feeds us with the truth of God’s word, when this happens the gate is being opened.
When the devil tries to get a foothold to block the closing of the gate, God’s word will enable the armor of God to be put on to speak the word of God and slam the gate shut.
Our country is shifting away from God’s word.
